Ecotechnicians Explain Modulating controls and Weather Compensation
gas-boiler-london

'Modulating Control' (a controller) and 'Open Therm' (a boiler) are two new buzz words in the gas heating industry. Modulating control and open therm boiler combinations are much more effective than the traditonal thermostat and give long term savings on fuel bills. Why are they relevant? Becuase they are eco-friendly; minimising waste and inappropriate energy consumption.

The controller measures room temperature, or outside temperature in the case of weather compensation*, and calculates the best use of gas. The boiler flame is modulated accordingly, keeping the living space always at its optimum - and most energy efficient - temperature.  The boiler has an intelligent interface which will sense and control the burner, heat circulation, hot water and mixing valves. Optimum Start is also available.

What is 'weather compensation'? gas-boiler-london

Weather compensation technology monitors and responds to the flow temperature of the heating circuit in relation to outside weather conditions. Weather compensation systems are intelligent: they switch the boiler on and off at optimum times; equalise room temperatures, and factor in seasons to avoid autumn / spring over or under heating. They minimise discomfort and the need to crank up the heat - or ventilate and 'dump' heat. Vaillant condensing boilers have a wireless sensor version, Viessmann offer the Vitotronic 200 and outside sensor, for example.
